O God, bring us together in your Holy Spirit.  Make us a sign of your love for all people, that we may show forth the living presence of Christ in the world.

Pastoral Care ministers to parishioners who are sick in the hospital or at home, those who are temporarily or permanently homebound, those in custodial care, the bereaved, and those who need access to social services.

If you are sick in the hospital or at home, we can

1. Visit you and pray with you
2. Bring the Eucharist to you Administer the Sacraments of the Sick if you are seriously ill
3. Provide meals after you go home from the hospital
4. Notify your Zone or Small Faith Community so they can pray for you or offer their help
5. Provide information on sitters and other needs after a hospital stay
6. Put your name on the Sunday bulletin prayer list
7. Provide literature on dealing with certain illnesses and on healing prayer

If you are temporarily or permanently homebound, we can

1. Visit you and pray with you
2. Bring the Eucharist to you 
3. Have a social worker assess your situation and make recommendations based on your needs
4. Have someone grocery shop for you
5. Administer the Sacrament of the Sick if you are seriously ill

If you are in custodial care (a nursing home or assisted living facility), we can

1. Visit you and pray with you
2. Bring the Eucharist to you on a regular basis
3. Provide literature on dealing with certain illnesses and on healing prayer and daily meditations on scripture

In the event of a parishioner's death, we can

1. Send trained Bereavement Team member to your home to help you with plans and arrangements for a funeral, including accompanying you to the funeral home and planning the funeral liturgy
2. Provide meals for friends and family following the interment
3. Include grieving family members in our bereavement support group

PARISH BASED HEALTH MINISTRY PROGRAM

St. Richard parish is a pilot site for the Diocese of Jackson providing health and wellness education and case management services for our parishioners.  Educational services include health fairs, resources information, and literature on health issues, plus classes, groups and seminars on topics of interest.  Case Management is a private contractual arrangement between an individual parishioner and the program coordinator, Arin Clark Hewes, LMSW.  Consultation, assessment and resource connection will be provided to the parishioners who are referred to and request services from the program.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

1. Eucharistic minister to someone who is homebound or in custodial care
2. Prepare food for those who are sick or bereaved
3. Do grocery shopping for the homebound
4. Take someone to a doctor's appointment
5. NEW! Help with food, bedding and supplies for a special group of hurrican refugees with Catholic Charities of New Orleans who will be staying with us in the event they have to evacuate.
